I mean, really. If we're only given a handout that says what she kind of wants on the paper and no clear-cut rubric, then it's tough to know how she's going to grade something. Even in class, when I'd ask "so, on this example paper that you're showing us as an example, what would YOU give this student, as a grade?" she wouldn't be able to give us a clear-cut answer.
Holy Balls, Batman. I mean, really. I took classes harder than this in high school. I didn't get an A in a collegiate-level advanced composition course for nothing. You'd think that at the actual collegiate level, even foreign TA's would be intelligent enough to know to hand out rubrics. Due to our little "chat" that we had on Thursday, my TA will (hopefully) have gotten at least that much.
I went in and argued a little bit and asked for a couple main things, including:
- a rubric for future essays and speeches ahead of time
- a little more about how our essay/speech was graded (although, she did well with showing how the speech was graded, I'll give her that...)
- and a higher grade on my first essay
the grade on my first essay was raised by 4%, yo
